It takes up examination of documents sent by police and other Govt. organizations and Courts in connection with police, and civil cases. Fees for examination are realized in civil suits.
Dos : The investigating officer should sent the documents through court in sealed cover with a certificate of the LD. SDJM Authorising the expert to examine the documents and if necessary, to take them to pieces or remove portions for the purpose of the said examination.
The IO should properly encircle and mark the portion if writing/signature and mention in his forwarding memo which are questioned writing/signatures.
The standard writing/signature for comparison are of two folds one of which are request writing commonly known as specimen writings and the other standard writings are what are written in some other documents. These admitted writings/signatures should also be procured and sent for examination as the specimen writings are sometimes found to be disguised or willfully distorted.
The nature of examination required should be specific and clear.
DON’Ts : A disputed document should not be cut, torn or in any manner mutilated in the slightest degree. If should not be touched with an eraser of any kind. It should not be folded in any new place. The document should not be exposed to sun or moisture, unnecessary perforation may be avoided.
